In July, 1919, Iowa Governor Harding called a special session of the legislature to ratify the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution to give women the right to vote. One hundred and four years later, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds calls for a special session to take reproductive freedom away from women. It is the first time in history that a right has been taken away.
This past legislative session, Iowa Senate Democrats attempted to pass legislation for paid family leave, expand access to childcare, and make healthcare more affordable. But Republicans completely ignored it.
This just shows how out of touch Republicans politicians are with the needs of everyday Iowans.
