GOP candidates have officially begun campaigning for the Iowa primaries, making stops in the state over the last month and professing their love for corporations, gutting regulations, and demonizing communities across the country.
Donald Trump made his regular points of claiming to be the "best" for whatever audience he is in front of, with the focus in Iowa being farmers and fossil fuels. He also went on an aggressive tirade against any policy that would combat the climate crisis, as well as stating he would reinstate his ban on people coming in from Muslim-majority countries and reverse all Biden administration policies.
Casey DeSantis campaigned in Iowa for her husband by leaning into the anti-LGBTQ rhetoric by claiming that Democrats are "coming after [your] kids." A big selling point of the DeSantis campaign has been peddling lies about the Covid pandemic, as well as being a vociferous force against the LGBTQ community. Hosting Casey DeSantis, the Iowa Governor made it a point to highlight the connection between the "faith community" and government.
Also visiting Iowa, former VP Mike Pence broke away from Trump on the idea of January 6th and the Big Lie while being confronted by a Trump supporter. He also told the world the truth about Republicans and their loyalty in saying, “I don't really buy into the rich need to pay their fair share.”
One month ago in the state, Nikki Haley stressed the importance of border security and blasted the Biden administration for the withdrawal from Afghanistan; The Trump administration floated that same withdrawal and received praise. She also reprimanded the ability of citizens to access Medicaid and affordable healthcare, highlighting the GOP's crusade against low-income Americans and demonizing them.
What all of these candidates have in common: a push for less freedoms for anyone they deem unworthy, less access to healthcare and affordable living, and working on behalf of the fossil-fuel industry and other corporate donors.
John, we cannot afford to lose more progress to the radical right. Help us defend the Presidency and make sure that Democrats are able to continue delivering for all Americans. |
