Tell Congress: Pass the People over the Pentagon Act!
Dear John,
The House of Representatives will soon take up the National Defense Authorization Act, the annual bill that covers military and war policy. The draft NDAA authorizes $886 billion for the military, more than we spend on education, transportation, health and human services, the State and Justice Departments, and the EPA combined.
Rep. Barbara Lee and Rep. Mark Pocan have submitted an amendment to the NDAA called the “People over the Pentagon Act” which would cut $100 billion from the military budget to fund other vital domestic needs.
Tell your members of Congress: Vote YES on the People over the Pentagon Act and move funding away from war and militarism! [link removed]
A majority of U.S. adults support cutting Pentagon spending and reinvesting those funds in programs that benefit everyone. In 2023, 62% of the U.S. discretionary budget ($1.14 trillion) went to fund war and militarism. Only 38% ($685 billion) was left to pay for housing, health care, education, transportation, and the environment. This isn’t sustainable, and it needs to change.
Reductions in Pentagon spending could be reinvested to support:
--Affordable housing for low-income communities.
--Health care support and subsidies.
--Food security programs.
--Climate change action and clean energy solutions.
All of these actions would create jobs and support communities. Please urge your member of Congress to support the People over the Pentagon Act today! [link removed]
