Tuesday, February 18, is the Wisconsin Spring Primary Election. There is a critical statewide race for Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice, a ten-year seat, on the ballot. Supreme Court Justice Dan Kelly (incumbent) will be facing off against candidates Ed Fallone and Jill Karofsky.

Appleton's "Youth Mental Health Act" is Anything BUT Healthy
State Board Holds Hearing on Same Issue

 

"Since early November, various people have been working hard to stop officials in Appleton from proceeding with an ordinance they euphemistically call the Youth Mental Health Act. However, last Wednesday, fourteen of the fifteen members of the Appleton Common Council bowed to the political pressure of the minority of Appleton citizens and approved this ordinance.
...
"The Marriage and Family Therapy, Professional Counseling, and Social Work Examining Board on Tuesday held a hearing on a proposed rule change dealing with this very issue. The proposal includes removing sex as a protected class and replacing that with gender and gender identity in the anti-discrimination language that governs the practice of [state-licensed therapists, counselors and social workers]."

WFA president Julaine Appling says, "This end-run around the normal legislative process, has the weight of law and will impact licensed therapists, counselors and social workers statewide. In addition to making gender mean the same thing as sex, which isn’t true, the rules would rob Christians who hold these licenses of their First Amendment rights and keep them from offering real help and real hope to people struggling with unwanted same-sex attraction and unwanted gender confusion."

President Trump Delivers Pro-Life Speech

From Julaine Appling, WFA president, "As we wrap up Sanctity of Human Life month 2020, how fitting it is that we report on President Donald Trump’s remarks at the 47th annual March for Life that took place this last Friday in Washington, D.C. In this first-ever appearance by a president at a March for Life, President Trump recognized the tens of thousands of people who attended the rally, especially the women, faith leaders and students. His comments such as, “[w]hen we see the image of a baby in the womb, we glimpse the majesty of God’s creation,” received thunderous applause and approval.
 
"I encourage everyone to at least read the transcript of this historic speech. President Trump appropriately mentioned as it relates to abortion, religious freedom and judicial appointments; but his summary statement really nailed it: 'And above all, we know that every human soul is divine and every human life, born and unborn, is made in the holy image of Almighty God.' Amen, President Trump, Amen."

National School Choice Week in Full Swing
VP Mike Pence Delivers Remarks at State Capitol
 

National School Choice Week began this past Sunday and runs through Saturday, February 1, 2020. Wisconsin has been a leader in school choice for decades. We boast the nation’s first voucher program which is now one of the largest in the country. Under Governor Scott Walker and a conservative state legislature, the choice program was expanded from Milwaukee to Racine and ultimately to the entire state. In addition to the voucher program, Wisconsin has numerous other educational choices for parents, including virtual, regular private schools and homeschooling.
 
Vice President Mike Pence made a trip to our beautiful State Capitol this week where at a noontime celebration, he delivered encouraging words regarding school choice: ""I'm here in Wisconsin because this is where it all began," Pence said. Wisconsin Family Action was present for the event and live streamed the event on our Facebook.

Governor Evers was not present at this event and did not greet VP Pence during his visit to The Badger State.

We have had some leaders over the years who really understood that ultimately parents are the ones responsible for the education of their children and are the ones who know what is best for their children. Giving parents educational options is not only right; it’s in the best interest of everyone, in particular the next generation."
