Dear John,
The other day, I watched my nine-year old daughter pack her purse to go outside. The contents? 5 jerky sticks, chapstick, and rainbow sunglasses.
As a mom, I’m proud of my daughter for having the foresight to bring snacks. And her Dad and I got a kick out of her choice of sustenance. (The dog was also thrilled to follow her around the yard.)

But it also got me thinking – about how our children are always watching us, and how, as adults, we have a responsibility to set an example for the next generation.
I hope that someday, my daughters can look back and see that their mother never just accepted the status quo or backed down from a worthwhile fight.
I’m running for Congress to show them that they don’t just have to accept the way things are. I know that we can do so much better – for our veterans, for our working families, and for everyone else that feels left behind and forgotten.
At times it can be hard to balance being a candidate and a mom. But moments like these remind me that this is a worthwhile fight – because if I’m lucky, my daughters will inherit more than just my love of jerky.
If you’re with me in this fight, can you chip in your first donation of $5? I'm relying on people like our family to fuel our work – working parents, military families, teachers, folks who $5 means a whole lot to.
