Federal court dismisses lawsuit challenging voter registration applications

Here are some updates from today.
* House Republicans introduced ([link removed]) the American Confidence in Elections Act, a sweeping “election integrity” bill, which would recommend policy changes nationwide and overhaul elections in Washington, D.C.
* A federal court dismissed ([link removed]) a lawsuit brought by the League of Women Voters of Florida and the Florida State Conference of the NAACP alleging that Florida voter registration applications lack federally required information about voter eligibility for those with post-felony convictions. The pro-voting groups now have 14 days to file an amended complaint to continue the case.
* Today is the last day for Ohio voters to register to vote for the special election on Aug. 8. On the ballot is a proposal from Republican lawmakers to make it harder for voters to amend the state constitution. Ohioans can check their registration here ([link removed]) .
* In a lawsuit challenging Louisiana's congressional map, the state argued ([link removed]) in a new filing that the case should go back to the trial court to address if Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act is "no longer necessary" in light of SCOTUS' recent affirmative action decision.

Here’s what’s happening in the courts tomorrow.
* Oral argument will be held in an appeal of a state-level lawsuit ([link removed]) challenging Utah’s congressional map drawn with 2020 census data and the Utah Legislature’s repeal of Proposition 4
([link removed]) , a ballot initiative passed in 2018 that created an independent redistricting commission.
