Friends, did you see our recent (and final!) televised mayoral debate last week? I’m sharing some highlights from the Q&A below because I intend to earn every vote cast for me in this election, and that means ensuring every voter knows where I stand on the issues that matter most.
Take a look, and then share this email with a few of your friends to get them ready to vote by August 3.
On making housing accessible and affordable:
We’re facing a housing crisis. We need to do a better job preserving affordability where it is, by expanding property tax freezes and rehabilitation grants for existing homes.
We need to actually help people become homeowners through savings and down payment programs, especially for our public servants like teachers, firefighters, and cops.
And we need to use public property for affordable housing where we have the infrastructure to support it.
On the biggest infrastructure challenges to the city:
Our city has grown so much that services won’t catch up for another 75 years. The next mayor needs to be a leader in getting this work done so that folks can drive to work in the mornings without a GPS to navigate traffic, or without fears of blowing out their tires.
On breaking down racial barriers:
Nashville has distinguished itself from the South with its determination to break down racial barriers, and by being one of the first cities to tackle segregation. We’ve still got a long way to go – the next mayor needs to invite more voices at the table so that our communities can have a say in planning and decision-making.
Now that the televised debates have ended, we’re relying on good old-fashioned people power to carry our message to every corner of Nashville. That means sneakers on the ground going door to door, phone calls and text messages to potential voters, yard signs posted up in windows and front lawns, and honestly, word of mouth.
You’ve been a key part of my campaign up to this point – thank you!! But we’re going to need you now more than ever – so please, share this email with your friends and family and have the tough conversations about what’s at stake on August 3.
And then if you’re able, I hope you’ll consider chipping in to my campaign – any amount that’s meaningful to you will help us get results on Election Day! [[link removed]]
