We urge President Biden and his administration to match words with actions Dear Email, This weekend, President Biden said that Netanyahu’s coalition government has some “of the most extreme members” he’s seen in Israel and that the cabinet ministers who back settling “anywhere they want” in occupied Palestine are “part of the problem.”. While we welcome acknowledgment of Israel’s extremist elements, acknowledgment alone is simply not enough. It is crucial to question why the United States continues to provide unlimited support to Israel despite such clear disdain for Palestinian rights. President Biden’s statements are meaningless unless they are backed by concrete actions and a significant shift in U.S. policy towards Israel. Such a shift should be easy given the unhinged open nature of oppression that the Israeli military and its settlers have been engaging in against the Palestinians. It’s utterly ironic that President Biden continues to laud his unwavering support for Israel, a state that continues to trample over the rights of Palestinians and expand its illegal settlements. This overt contradiction sends a clear message: Israel enjoys impunity because it is confident of the U.S. blank check support. Such assurance facilitates the continued oppression of Palestinians and their displacement from their ancestral lands. In these recent comments, President Biden advocated for a two-state solution. Yet, the Israeli cabinet, laden with extreme members, as Biden himself observed, has repeatedly voiced their opposition to a Palestinian state and encouraged the expansion of settlements in the West Bank. Words supporting a two-state solution while financially and politically backing a government committed to the expansion of settlements and annexation of Palestinian lands are meaningless. AJP Action holds firm that rhetoric alone, without meaningful actions to back it up, is insufficient and cowardly. We urge President Biden and his administration to match words with actions. This starts with the U.S. ceasing its financial aid to Israel, putting a halt to the settler-colonial project, and acknowledging the rights of Palestinians. The President rightly pointed out that the Palestinian Authority "has lost its credibility." It's imperative to understand that the credibility crisis is directly linked to Israel's oppressive policies and the United States continued blank-check policies. This destructive cycle must be broken if the United States actually wants to pave the way for justice and peace and uphold its claim of being a leader in human rights. We appeal to President Biden to transform his recognition of extremism in the Israeli cabinet into tangible action. America's blind support for Israel must come to an end. Our foreign policy should align with our claimed values, and this begins by taking a firm stand against Israel's violent, extremist, and oppressive actions against the Palestinian people. |
