Flint Woman Charged with Four Counts of Embezzlement from a?Vulnerable Adult of $100,000 or More

*LANSING *??Constance Marie Roberts, 66, of Flint, was arraigned before Judge David G. Guinn in the 67th District Court in Flint on four counts of Embezzlement from a Vulnerable Adult $100,000 or More, and four counts of Failure to File Taxes after allegedly taking large sums of money and multiple vehicles from the victim, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced. Each count of embezzlement is a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison. The tax counts are felonies punishable by up to 5 years in prison.???

Roberts is alleged to have been in a long-term relationship with her victim, a married man 20 years her senior. Throughout their relationship, the victim would occasionally give Roberts small gifts of money and property. Roberts is alleged to have begun taking advantage of this arrangement by obtaining large sums of money and multiple vehicles when the victim started to exhibit cognitive decline. It is alleged that Roberts completely drained the victim?s checking and savings accounts, with a combined balance of approximately 3 million dollars, between 2018 and 2021. In addition to the theft, Roberts is alleged to have failed to report the income on her Michigan tax returns.?

?Many older adults have saved for retirement their entire working lives, and sadly they must also plan to protect their assets from people in their lives who would take advantage of them,? said Nessel. ?My office will continue to investigate and prosecute complaints of financial exploitation committed against seniors and other vulnerable adults.????

A probable cause conference is scheduled before Judge Guinn in the 67th District Court on July 20th.?

"*Please note:*?A criminal charge is merely an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. The Department of Attorney General does not provide booking photos."?
