Hello!

This past week I attended the grand opening of the Nebraska/Iowa Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC), one of 28 Veterans Business Outreach Centers Across the Country. The Nebraska Enterprise Fund applied to the United States Small Business Administration (SBA) to become a Veteran’s Business Outreach Center so they could offer resources to local veterans, service members, and military spouses who are interested in starting or growing a small business.

I was particularly supportive of this center, as I have worked with local leaders from the Small Business Administration on many issues because of the hard work and dedication they show to the community. As I wrote in my letter of support for the project, the Nebraska Enterprise Fund has a large presence in our district, helping people from various backgrounds.

At the grand opening, I was joined by Timothy Green, Deputy Associate Administrator for the Office of Veterans Business Development at SBA; Mindy Brissey, Regional Administrator for SBA Region VII; Jim Reiff, Executive Director of the Nebraska Enterprise Fund; and Tim Mittan, District Director for Nebraska SBA.

The VBOCs offer workshops, training, counseling, and mentorship opportunities and help participants navigate SBA’s extensive resource partner network. They also provide referrals to community partners lenders, or other SBA programs.

They also offer Transition Assistance Programs, Pre-Business Plan Workshops, Concept Assessments, Business Plan Preparation, Comprehensive Feasibility Analysis, Entrepreneurial Training and Counseling, Mentorship, and Other Business Developmental Related Services. More information can be found at https://www.sba.gov/local-assistance/resource-partners/veterans-business-outreach-center-vboc-program

Thank you to Nebraska Enterprise Fund and the United States Small Business Administration for partnering together to help veterans across Nebraska start and run small businesses. This is much welcomed as over 24,000 veterans reside in Omaha and nine percent of small businesses in Nebraska are veteran owned.

If you are a veteran and need assistance with issues related to the VA, military records, etc. reach out to our office at 402-938-0300. We have a staff member dedicated to helping veterans!

Sincerely,

Rep. Don Bacon

Member of Congress
