We?ve announced ?5m of funding today which will help disabled people and those with long-term health conditions find work.
It?s a joint project with Nottinghamshire County and Derby City councils, but which we?ve led so I?m really pleased that our funding bid was approved by Government. It will directly support more than 2,600 local people across the three council areas.
This significant grant will find new ways to remove employment barriers that can stand in people?s way through no fault of their own. It will build confidence and provide both job opportunities and further career development. I look forward to seeing its progress over the coming months.

It was great to be at Nottingham Castle the other week for its official reopening and I said on the day that we could look forward now to more events taking place in the grounds.
Up next are three outdoor theatre performances where visitors can pack a picnic, blanket and camping chair for fantastic open-air productions:
Friday 21 July | Jane Austen's Emma
Join the critically-acclaimed Pantaloons Theatre Company for a riotous Regency rom-com. Meet misguided matchmaker Emma as she tries to play Cupid in this hilarious yet faithful new adaptation of Jane Austen?s satirical story.
Thursday 3 August | MacHamLear
Take part in a unique experiment that will answer the question keeping literary scholars up at night... which play is the best the Bard has to offer? In this farcical piece of new writing, Heartbreak Productions pits Macbeth, Hamlet and King Lear against each other.
Monday 28 August | David Walliams' Bad Dad
Frank and his dad Gilbert navigate their way through car chases and convicts in the struggle to escape the clutches of the local crime lord and clear Gilbert?s name.

Nottingham City Councillors today took the opportunity to pause and reflect on the recent tragic events in our city and held a minute's silence for Grace O'Malley-Kumar, Barnaby Webber and Ian Coates.
We also paid tribute to Dr Rose Thompson and Leonie Meikle -?two people who made an important contribution to our city. Dr Thompson devoted her career to the NHS and was a champion of health equality and cancer support services. Leonie Meikle worked in education and was formerly the City Council's Head of the School Governors Service.
The meeting also discussed a motion calling on schools to develop a diverse curriculum that better reflects the make-up of our city, as well as better reflecting Nottingham?s diversity in books held in our libraries, our communications and our cultural events.
You can find further details on the City Council website along with all other public meetings - Agenda for City Council on Monday, 10th July, 2023, 2.00 pm - Nottingham City Council
