Friend —
Today, my friend Curtis Hertel announced his bid for Congress in Michigan’s 7th District in Congress – my current seat.
CONTRIBUTEThe people of Michigan’s 7th District are looking for a candidate who has an understanding of the issues that affect them and their families. Candidates who will show up, listen, and then show up again and again and again.
I have known Curtis since I first began exploring first running for office in 2017. And I can tell you that Curtis is that person. I’m confident that with him mid-Michigan will be in good hands. But I would never say that without showing the proof so let me explain.
Drawn to public service by the example of his grandfather, a World War II combat veteran, and his father, Curtis Hertel Sr., a former legislator who was respected and admired for his tenure as co-Speaker of the Michigan House at a time when the chamber was evenly split between Democrats and Republicans, Curtis’s dad taught his kids that there is nothing we can’t accomplish when we work together.
Like me, he understands the value of working across the aisle to create good-paying jobs in Mid-Michigan.
Curtis will also fight to protect Michiganders’ rights and freedoms. He stood up against Republicans in Lansing trying to ban abortion and played a key role in repealing Michigan’s 1931 abortion ban. In Congress, he will always stand on the side of women and protect the right to choose.
In order to take back control of the House next year, Democrats need to hold onto every seat we have, as well as flip five others. But it won’t be easy — MI-07 will be one of the most competitive House races in the country, and we need a strong fighter like Curtis to defend it. That’s why I’m supporting him right out the gate today, and asking you to join me:
