With Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey, I introduced the Supporting Family-to-Family Health Information Centers Act earlier this year. Family-to-Family Health Information Centers provide essential support for families trying to arrange health services for their children with special health care needs. Our bill will ensure funding for the program over the next five years. The bill was passed by Congress and now heads to President Trump to be signed into law. Ensuring these services are available is important for strong families and strong communities in Iowa and throughout the country.

The decision to entrust an aging loved one to a facility is a difficult one. Many families rely on tools such as the Nursing Home Compare website and the Five-Star Quality Rating System to find a nursing home that best fits their needs. However, when these tools don’t work as they should, the health and safety of nursing home residents are put at risk. Approximately one in 10 Americans aged 60 and older fall victim to elder abuse each year. Families shouldn’t have to worry that their loved one will be abused at the hands of a caregiver. That's why I held a Senate Finance Committee hearing to address the issue of elder abuse. The additional measures being put forward will help ensure that government-provided information on nursing homes and care facilities are accurate and reliable, and that oversight efforts will continue to increase quality standards and keep them high. Congress passed three bills I authored to improve the re-organization processes for family farmers, small business owners and veterans. Our current one-size-fits-all bankruptcy laws don’t always address the unique challenges that American families face when they fall on hard times. Our family farmers, small business owners and military heroes deserve debt reorganization tools that recognize their unique situations and help them get back on their feet faster. These bipartisan bills will help ensure greater prosperity for America’s producers, innovators and defenders. They are headed to President Trump to be signed into law.
