I am working in Congress to deliver real, tangible changes for Washingtonians here at home, and we have had some significant infrastructure wins over the course of the last few weeks!
One of which is additional Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant funding bringing the total amount in investment in Washington's Second Congressional District since 2022 to $59.5 million.
The latest project? Funding to resolve issues with Blaine's Bell Road.
This has been a long time coming. The first I heard about concerns over safety, accessibility, and congestion on Bell, I was a freshman member of Congress.
Thanks to this funding, the existing dangerous Bell Road-BNSF railway at-grade crossing will be replaced with a new, safer roadway and railway overpass. The construction of a dedicated multi-use path with combat traffic congestion, increase accessibility for community members, increase overall safety, and improve neighboring aquatic habitat.
This is just one of three projects under that $59.5 million grant. Others include a $25 million budget to construct a multimodal bridge over I-5 in Lynnwood; and $25 million more to replace Whatcom County's 60-year-old Lummi Island Ferry with an electric-battery hybrid ferry and build related infrastructure.
These grants will fuel critical infrastructure projects, address transportation challenges, improve safety, create jobs, and boost economic opportunities in our communities. With the right leadership, major projects like these can become a reality, and I will never stop advocating for our district's infrastructure needs.
More soon,
Rick
