As I reflect on the founding of our nation after the week of Independence Day, I am drawn to the preamble of our sacred Constitution where our founders enshrined their intentions: to form a more perfect Union.
They understood that America was not yet perfect or infallible, but that we would invariably work toward perfecting it. They understood the greatness of this nation but strived to make it better. The task they undertook would prove difficult, but they had hope, faith, and optimism that we would overcome.
That torch has been passed to subsequent generations of Americans as a mandate to work toward perfecting this Union.
When Americans pause and reflect on the freedoms and blessings this country has afforded all of us, it is hard to deny the greatness of this nation and all that we have accomplished.
But for too many on our Independence Day, they would prefer to seek fault in our exceptionalism.
Under President Biden and the radical Left, our nation retreats from patriotism and faith. They say opportunity in America is a myth and faith in America is a fraud.
Our kids today are taught they live in a racist, declining country. They indoctrinate our youngsters, by telling them everything wrong in this country is someone else's fault. They seek to cancel our founding fathers. As they peddle the drug of victimhood and the narcotic of despair - it has become pervasive throughout our nation.
Whether it is the ladies of The View, former President Obama, or any of the naysayers of my campaign who peddle these dangerous lies about our country, they all refuse to grasp the promise of tomorrow. So we should not be surprised that the number of Americans who are proud of this country is in steady decline.
But this is the purpose of our mission. The truth is, this is why we need new leadership. This is why we need a president who not only has faith in America, but faith in its people. A president who can send a message to today's young people, sharing the journey of America. This starts with the return of real American History being taught in our classrooms - from our nation's founding to the major obstacles we have overcome. From the Civil War to World War I and World War II - where Americans have given their lives in the pursuit to set people free, and change the course of human history.
Knowing our nation's story of faith, courage, and redemption, we need a president who is not afraid to acknowledge the sins of our past and yet still confess the goodness of this nation. That starts by having faith in its people, and displaying why we are that city on the hill.
This message of hope is one I share every day on the campaign trail. And I witness everywhere I go, Americans are hungry for an optimistic, positive message, with a backbone, anchored in the conservative principles which have truly revolutionized our world, and unleashed human flourishing from sea to shining sea. These values adhere to the principles set forth by our Declaration of Independence - all life is sacred, endowed by God with unalienable Rights. We commit to defending our religious liberties and Freedom of Speech and worship that we all cherish. These guiding principles set forth on July 4, 1776 are not just conservative values, they're American values.
We are blessed to live in the greatest nation on God's green earth. Only in America could the son of a single mother rise from poverty to become a candidate for president.
I look back at the fact that my grandfather was born in 1921 in a very different South Carolina, and he believed then, what some doubt now, in the goodness of America. Because he believed in having faith in God, faith in himself, and faith in what the future could hold for his kids, that would unleash opportunities in ways that you could not imagine.
In my grandfather's lifetime, this nation achieved the progress he knew we were capable of. Imagine the potential we could unlock if we unleashed that same hope and optimism around this country – with the confidence in our future at heart. America is the land of opportunity, not a land of oppression. I know it because I've lived it. I have held the truth, the inalienable truth, that all men and women are created equal! This is why I choose freedom, hope, and opportunity. I will do everything in my power to defend it for the next generation.
I believe America can do for anyone what she has done for me. That is why I'm running for President of the United States. There is no greater day to proclaim these truths from the highest mountaintop and to the deepest valley than our nation's Independence Day. As we celebrate the founding of our country and reflect on the many blessings of freedom, we give thanks to the men and women who have sacrificed so the next generation of Americans could live free.
