Abortion care is health care and a fundamental human right.
But access to this right has been stripped away from far too many. The Abortion Justice Act is a comprehensive bill that envisions an America where abortion care is readily available for all who seek it, regardless of one’s state, immigration status, or income. It affirms a legal right to abortion and miscarriage care across the nation. It protects patients and providers from being criminalized. And it requires that health insurance cover abortion care.

But the Abortion Justice Act doesn’t stop there. It also removes systemic barriers to care, including immigrant families, and addresses systemic racism and disparities in the healthcare system. Further, it calls for federal investments in training, research, outreach, innovation and doula care.

In an era where not only has the Supreme Court taken away the right to abortion in the Dobbs decision, but multiple states have enacted legislation criminalizing the procedure, and Republicans in Congress are seeking a nationwide abortion ban, the importance of enshrining the right to abortion in a sweeping federal law has never been more urgent.
