John,
There’ve been whispers, there’ve been rumors, and yes, it’s true: I’m running to represent Assembly District 17 on the Democratic County Central Committee (DCCC).
When I ran last year for District 5 Supervisor and sought the endorsement of the San Francisco Democratic Party, hundreds of neighbors came out to speak in support.
The ferocity of their support and the diversity of their backgrounds surprised many on the DCCC and I’m so honored that our District 5 community—from the Fillmore/Western Addition to the Inner Sunset and all the way to Cathedral Hill—came out to have their voices heard. It spoke to how far removed the voices of our neighborhoods are from our party—the city’s biggest, and only Democratic political party. That needs to change.

We can chart a political future that lifts the voices of all San Franciscans, but it isn’t going to happen on Facebook or Twitter, it’s going to happen by raising the voices in our neighborhoods.
This isn’t a choice between progressives or moderates—it’s a choice for unity.
There’s so much at stake in 2020, and we especially can’t lose track of what’s at stake right here in San Francisco. Our city has always been a city of firsts, where ideals are put into practice, and where we build a new democratic model for our neighbors across the country. Most of all, we’ve always been a place that brings new people in, builds bigger and better coalitions, and puts our community and our values at the heart of everything we do.
I hope you’ll join me in helping shaping that model for our party and our city.
Thank you.
