John, as you
probably know, we go to Congress to get things done for the people that
elected us — the people in our district and state! One of the specific
ways we are able to do that is through a process called district
appropriations. Where we can ask for funding for vital projects that
directly help and support our communities.
This year I requested nearly $23 million, with more than $7 million
budgeted to tackle homelessness and housing insecurity, and other amounts
for mental health and substance abuse treatment, for public safety and
other key priorities. And as a senator, I will work tirelessly to continue
bringing vital resources home to help with the real, urgent needs our
communities face, and help other colleagues do the same. [ [link removed] ]To ensure this
happens, can I count on you to chip in to my campaign today to send me to
the U.S. Senate?

This is a major priority for me because we have the opportunity in
Congress to help address homelessness and tackle the challenge of
increasing affordable housing — not only in my state, but in each of our
communities across the country.
For example, right now I’m working to secure $3 million for the Gower
Street Apartments in Hollywood, affordable housing for seniors, many of
whom were previously homeless. The building is old, the elevator often
doesn’t work, and it needs updating. The millions in funding would go
towards updating the original 1930’s building to improve accessibility for
its senior residents.
I’m advocating for these funds because all people, including our seniors,
deserve to have a safe, comfortable, and secure place to live. And this is
just one example of how Congress can help address real world issues on the
ground at home.
The sad truth is that some of my colleagues won’t fight to bring back
resources to their district or state. But for me, being in Congress is
about getting results rather than mere rhetoric. And if it’s a choice
between helping someone get off the street vs. a campaign talking point —
I’m going to pick helping people every day.
If representatives or senators aren’t willing to fight for every dollar
they can to meet the needs of their constituents, then it simply means
that thousands of people that could be living in a home or shelter will
remain on the street. And that makes no sense to me.
[ [link removed] ]John, if
you’re with me, please consider contributing whatever you can afford to
help us grow this campaign, so I can proudly fight as a U.S. Senator for
the resources that will continue to make our communities better and more
affordable for everyone.
