Good morning,
With the Senate's impeachment trial of Attorney General Ken Paxton slated to begin on September 5, attention is starting to turn to the prosecutors hired by the House.
More specifically, Dick DeGuerin—a Houston-based criminal defense attorney—who is famous for having represented a notorious murderer in a case that has inspired numerous television shows and documentaries.
The story is grisly, and involves a man named Robert Durst who killed his neighbor, chopped up his body, and dumped him in the Galveston Bay.
Now, Texas taxpayers are on the hook for paying DeGuerin $500 an hour plus travel expenses as he attempts to remove Attorney General Ken Paxton from office.
Paxton's legal defense, attorney Tony Buzbee, hinted at the case during a recent press conference by saying they “made their bones by successfully representing some of the most notorious and famous alleged wrongdoers in Texas.”
“I've never been called upon to represent somebody who allegedly killed someone, cut up their body, and threw them in the Galveston Bay,” said Buzbee.
