Hey, friends!
I'm gonna try to keep this very brief because there are EIGHTEEN events listed at the end of this email, and that is insane! 18 events in one week! Wow -- TTP has got it going on all across Texas!
The 2 most important that you need to know about asap are the training in Granbury (our last one til 2025!!!) and the party in College Station (anyone can go!). Both require an rsvp, so do it today!
Our own Fran Rhodes was quoted in this article about Keller ISD's new bathroom policies.
Meanwhile I was quoted in a Washington Post article, but I'm not gonna give you the link and give them any extra clicks! Basically I was just saying how the grassroots are MAD about the vote to impeach Paxton. Duh -- what did they think would happen???
Need a job? Thanks to a True Texan for sending me this and suggesting that our peeps (not the Left) need to fill these spots to test & certify voting systems!
Another True Texan sent in this article outlining a realistic way to fight voter fraud BEFORE it happens -- not after the election when it's too late. The only problem is that it takes work and organization now, and very few will contribute.
Fran's Lege Update
Things are still moving in the 2nd Called Special Session of the 88th Legislature. Moving at a snail's pace, but moving. The 2nd Special has only 2 items on the call - Eliminating a property tax in Texas; and Lasting Property Tax Rate Cuts. The Senate has passed their version - SB1 and SJR1 and sent them to the House. So far the House has taken no action on them. The Senate bill still contains provisions to increase homestead exemptions plus tax rate compression. (the Governor has indicated he will not accept anything but 100% compression) The House version - HB1 and HJR1 calls only for rate compression (no increased exemption) and has been sent to Calendars Committee to schedule a vote.
Which leaves us pretty much where we were at the end of the 1st Special Session. Stalemate! At least the House is present this time, and actually doing things. Several bills have been assigned to Ways & Means Committee, and Speaker Phelan has appointed a shiny new "Select" Committee on Educational Opportunity and Enrichment. If you are in Austin on July 11 and 12, the new Select Committee on Education is holding hearings and taking public input. There is an online version available as well. where you can make your comments on line. No bills to testify on this time, just the objectives of the committee which are listed in the comment form.
For action items this week - please read the full Fran's Friday Message here. It contains 6 things that we can all do to advance the grassroots movement, borrowed from our friend, Luke Macias.
Stay Engaged! Fran Rhodes, President
