John,
For more than 80 years, Social Security has been a promise to seniors that if you take a part of your paycheck and contribute, you will be able to retire with grace and dignity. Over the years this promise has been extended to include people with disabilities and surviving spouses.
Nearly 65 million people rely on Social Security benefits each year, including 131,000 in my home state of Missouri. They’re relying on a fully funded Social Security program.
But, instead of strengthening and protecting Social Security for current and future generations, extreme MAGA Republicans want to end Social Security as we know it. When they attack Social Security’s promise, they’re attacking some of our most vulnerable communities -- seniors who rely on Meals on Wheels, people with disabilities who are unable to work, and dependents who have lost a parent or spouse.
Now, Speaker Kevin McCarthy has called for a so-called “bipartisan” commission to cut our hard earned Social Security benefits. But it’ll only be bipartisan if Democrats join him on his commission.
Let me be clear: I will not participate or support this commission, but there are other Democrats who might.
We must stand united together. Add your name today to tell Democrats to stop McCarthy’s commission and protect Social Security.

Social Security is a lifesaving program and we need to ensure it’s here to stay. As FDR said in the summer of 1941, one year after the first Social Security checks were mailed out, “no damn politician can ever scrap my Social Security program!”[1]
As Democrats we must be committed to strengthening and expanding Social Security. This means ensuring the wealthy pay their fair share so we can increase benefits and extend the lifespan of the trust fund. And it means stopping MAGA Republicans’ attempts to cut our earned benefits.
Sign now to demand all Democrats boycott Kevin McCarthy’s closed-door Social Security-cutting commission.
We believe in saving lives and showing up for our communities. Thank you for taking action today.
With love,
Cori
