There’s a lot happening around Innovation Center

The last new Metro station in Fairfax County before Dulles Airport will be Innovation Center, a somewhat bland name which Metro briefly tried to sell to an unnamed “Fortune 500 Company.” It had to pull back in the face of opposition from Fairfax County officials, but in the meantime, the area is bustling with change. I took a look around.

We’re joining DC’s Reclaim Rent Control coalition

DC will soon renew its rent stabilization policy, which limits the amount rent can increase in older apartment buildings of a certain size. Last year, in anticipation of this, a coalition called the Reclaim Rent Control was formed to push for a more expansive policy.

A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run

Cherlyn Ninette Bell was struck and killed on Suitland Parkway near the Irving Street SE exit ramp on Tuesday night. Could all Maryland schools start after Labor Day?

Advocates push for a women’s only pre-release facility

Advocates in Maryland are fighting against the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services addition of a coed re-entry facility for incarcerated people. Advocates are recommending legislation that would provide incarcerated women with a women’s only pre-release facility.
