Since the official end of the Covid-19 public health emergency in April of
this year, over 1.5 million people have lost Medicaid coverage nationwide
— and 35% of that population are children.^1 As shown in this graph from
the Kaiser Family Foundation, Florida leads in disenrollments with over
300,000 losing vital coverage.

This is yet another sign that our current health care system is not
working.

Moreover, since not all states have publicly available data, this is
likely an undercount of the reality. Of the states where we have reliable
data, 71% of those disenrolled had their coverage terminated for
procedural reasons — many of whom remain qualified to continue receiving
Medicaid coverage to this day.

We both know that under a Medicare for All system this would not be
happening.
We also know that a major obstacle to reforming our health care system is
the pervasive influence of the corporate health care industry.

That's why we launched the Patients Over Profits campaign to call on
elected officials and candidates to reject contributions from executives,
lobbyists, and PACs affiliated with the hospital, insurance, and pharma
industries. By rejecting these contributions, lawmakers will be able to do
the right thing for the public as opposed to catering to private
interests.

So far, over 100 elected officials and candidates have signed our Patients
Over Profits pledge, and we’ll be launching the next phase of our work
very soon! [ [link removed] ]If you'd like to get involved in our

The stakes are so high, as exemplified by millions of people arbitrarily
losing their health coverage. The status quo of health insurance in this
country is confusing, costly, and cruel. To change it, we’ll need to take
on the corporate health care industry directly. Our amazing volunteers who
did outreach, research, and community building have grown this campaign
and are working to go above and beyond. This pledge is driven by everyday
people in their communities speaking out, and we urge you to join us.

Getting corporate health care money out of politics is key to guaranteeing
no one is ever at risk of losing their health care ever again, and there's
a role for everyone in this fight. [ [link removed] ]Will you sign our interest form now
