I’m Joanna McClinton, Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and proud representative of HD-191.
I am so proud to serve the community that raised me. Growing up in Southwest Philadelphia, I was taught at a young age that when you see injustice, you face it head-on.
When I saw legislators prioritizing the wealthy and well-connected while too many working families suffered under the crumbling economy, underfunded schools, and exploitative criminal justice policies, I knew I couldn’t just sit by and watch. Communities like my own were depending on me, which inspired me to run for office in a special election in 2015.
I’ve been proud to make history every step of the way since then — when I was the first woman elected as House Democratic Caucus Chair in 2018, the first woman elected as House Democratic Leader in 2020, and the first woman elected to serve as Speaker of the Pennsylvania House in 2023.
Now, as the Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, my commitment to addressing the vast injustices across our state is stronger than ever.
As your Speaker, I promise that I will always stand up for workers’ rights, reproductive health care, criminal justice reform, and so much more. We’ve made a lot of great progress in the fight to better the lives of folks across the Commonwealth, but there’s so much more to do. The job is far from over.
