Dear Friends,
I wanted to provide a quick update in regards to an important issue impacting our community. Last session I worked hard to ensure my bill allowing the DNR to issue water use permits for?Lake Elmo passed. Despite its inclusion in the final Environment omnibus bill, the DNR stifled this provision by not authorizing?the expansion Friday. This was disappointing as our community needs this expansion to meet our growth requirement.
Lake Elmo remains in the limbo created by the Metropolitan (Met) Council when they forced our beautiful East metro city to grow without making the proper coordination for water. The Met Council simply left it to Lake Elmo to work it out on its own. Now, we do not have enough water to keep up with the demands of our growing community.?
I introduced legislation to require the Met Council to make prior coordination for resources with other state agencies ? such as water with the DNR ? so we can prevent the circumstance Lake Elmo finds itself in from ever happening to another Minnesota community.
I am engaging with the DNR and our partners to fix this water appropriation issue as soon as possible. I will continue to update you with any helpful information.?
This has been CONFUSSTRATING (Confusing + Frustrating) for our citizens. Ensuring that all Minnesotans have access to water is a non-partisan issue.?Our state has a duty to take care of its citizens and ensure we are practicing good governance.??
