Parental Control Progress on Meta’s Messenger, Instagram, and TikTok!

Numerous safety improvements have been made at Meta’s Messenger, Instagram, and TikTok, many of which correspond to requests NCOSE has been making of these companies:

👉Meta announced the release of Parental Supervision tools on Messenger. If teens and parents opt-in to use the tools, then the parent can view who their teen can interact with on Messenger, and be notified if their teen reports someone

👉Instagram added new features to their opt-in Parental supervision tools, including notifications encouraging teens to allow their parents to supervise their account, the ability for parents to see how many friends their teens has in common with accounts they follow, and more

👉TikTok created a Youth Council and added features which allow parents to filter content their teen sees, by blocking certain key words and hashtags

Are these changes enough to protect kids?

The Reality of Full Decriminalization of Prostitution

When prostitution is fully decriminalized, it leads to increased sex trafficking, increased violence for those in the sex trade, and decreased community safetyparticularly in marginalized communities.

Full decriminalization means that all parties involved in prostitution—including pimps, sex buyers, and brothel owners—would be decriminalized, leading to more violence, crime, and exploitation.

Listen to this conversation about the reality of full decriminalization, what it would mean for individuals and communities, and how we can support survivor-centered policies.

Without sex buyers, there would be no demand for people to “purchase” for “sex.” Without the demand of sex buyers, there would be no sex trafficking.

There are resources available to help sex buyers address the wounds/trauma/compulsions that lead to purchasing sex, and the chain of compulsive behavior and addiction can be broken before more damage is done.
