Dear john,

I hope you and your families enjoyed celebrating Independence Day on Tuesday. As we observed celebrations all week, I was glad to spend so much time with individuals in our community. Here are a few items you may have missed:

On Monday, I kicked off the week with a visit to Top Dogg K9 Foundation. TDK9 trains service dogs and connects them with disabled veterans. I was so pleased to visit with Blake and Sheila Rashad and spend time with dogs who will do so much for veterans in need.

Later that afternoon, I teamed up with Gwinnett County Commissioner Ben Ku as we assisted the Gwinnett Summer Meals Program in distributing meals to families in Lilburn. This county initiative has served over 4,000 meals to families across the county, helping ensure that no child goes hungry while they are out of school for the summer.

On Thursday morning, I was honored to deliver the keynote address at a naturalization ceremony at our local United States Citizenship and Immigration Services field office. It is incredibly moving to witness the culmination of what I know is a rigorous naturalization process. Congratulations to our country's fifty newest citizens! Welcome to our shared American identity.

Following the naturalization ceremony, I hosted a PACT Act briefing for veterans and their families. The PACT Act was an historic expansion of health benefits for individuals who were exposed to toxic substances during their military service. If you missed this event, stay tuned for future announcements about similar programs that my office will host! Any veteran in need of assistance with the Department of Veterans Affairs is encouraged to contact my office--we are here to serve you and ensure you have access to the benefits you earned and deserve!
