These first few weeks of 2020 have shown us that demand for commonsense gun safety laws is as high as ever. Hundreds of advocates joined us at the Capitol last week to call on the legislature to take action on gun responsibility and we’re already seeing progress.

But we aren’t the only ones energized. The gun lobby knows that momentum is on our side and they are doubling down on their efforts to undo all the progress we have fought so hard for.

A group of Representatives, including documented domestic terrorist Rep. Matt Shea, introduced a bill this session that would repeal key pieces of Initiative 1639 and allow military-style semi-automatic assault rifles to fall into dangerous hands.

A majority of voters from every corner of Washington state voted YES on Initiative 1639 because they want laws that will protect our schools and communities from the terror of gun violence. We are STILL defending I-1639 in court and now we need to stand up to a small group of legislators threatening to undermine the will of the people.
