A 2020 White House meeting could lead to a Trump conspiracy charge.  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Adam Schiff for Senate

John, last night I spoke with Lawrence O’Donnell on MSNBC about the Special Counsel Jack Smith’s latest move to find out what was said behind closed doors in the White House before the January 6th insurrection.

If successful, the evidence found by Mr. Smith could lead to a conspiracy charge against Donald Trump to defraud the American people.

Adam Schiff and Lawerence O'Donnell speak on the MSNBC show, The Last Word.

Let's break it down.

FIRST: We saw Trump do everything he could to shift the results of the 2020 election in his favor. Attempting to halt the count of absentee ballots, trying to stop states from declaring Biden the winner, asking state legislatures to go back into session and declare him the winner, and plotting a fake elector scheme to submit fraudulent certificates of ascertainment that asserted Trump had won the Electoral College vote in a few key states.

THEN: In December of 2020, Trump held a contentious meeting in the Trump Oval Office leading to a screaming match among the attendees, including Gen. Michael Flynn, Sidney Powell, Pat Cipollone, and Eric Herschmann.

After this meeting, when Donald Trump didn’t get the answers he wanted, he tweeted out rallying his supporters to gather at the U.S. Capitol Building. We all remember how that turned out:

Tweet from Donald Trump on December 30, 2020 reads: January sixth, see you in D.C.!

AFTER: On the January 6th Committee, we uncovered the truth about Donald Trump’s desperate attempts to overturn the 2020 election. We interviewed scores of witnesses and gathered evidence about the events that led to that dark day. But not every witness was cooperative, and we didn’t have the time or the enforcement ability to compel them to answer our questions. And I pushed the DOJ to investigate these very credible allegations, as they appeared to be slow-walking.

NOW: Some of Trump's top enablers are willing to participate in interviews with Jack Smith. If the Special Counsel gets the answers we couldn’t, then it’s possible that something from that chaotic December meeting could show how Donald Trump knew he had lost the 2020 election and the steps he was willing to take to overturn the results and defraud the American people.

All of this would be powerful evidence that could lead to a conspiracy charge against Trump.

MAGA Republicans have proven over and over again that they will retaliate against those trying to reveal the truth about the January 6th insurrection — including me. But I will never stop holding those who tarnish our Constitution and attempt to dismantle our democracy accountable for their actions. This might make me their enemy, but that will never deter me.

But to stand up to their relentless attacks, I need your support. Trump’s allies do not want to see me in the Senate because they know I will tirelessly fight to protect our democracy. That’s why we must do everything we can to get me there. Will you chip in $3 to this campaign which fights on the side of what’s right?

I’m glad to see the Special Counsel moving quickly to conclude the investigation and, I hope, to bring long overdue justice.
