At the close of the Western Governors? Association (WGA) 2023 Annual Meeting, Governor Gordon was elected Chairman by his fellow governors. As the new Chair, the Governor identified carbon capture utilization and sequestration (CCUS) as his Chair?s Initiative.?The initiative will explore how CCUS technologies can position Western states at the forefront of emerging carbon markets and reduce the effects of carbon emissions on the environment.
"Our world needs energy and a clean environment?neither is well served if we are not honest about consequences and challenges. Ignoring CCUS as a viable option to decarbonize the grid creates an energy gap," the Governor said.

Governor visits North Antelope Rochelle Mine in Aftermath of Tornado hit?
Governor Gordon traveled to Campbell County on June 24, the day after the North Antelope Rochelle coal mine was struck by an EF2 tornado. More than 400 workers were in a shift change when the tornado struck, but miraculously only eight injuries were reported. The Governor toured the facility where empty rail cars were toppled and multiple buildings were damaged, noting that the event served as a reminder of how serious severe weather can be. "We are deeply appreciative of our first responders, who are our eyes and ears on the ground. We are grateful for their diligence and professionalism," he said.? ?

Task Force launched to prepare for 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence
Prior to celebrating the 4th of July at the Jackson Hole Independence Day parade, the Governor signed an Executive Order creating the Wyoming Semiquincentennial Planning Task Force. The task force will begin planning events and activities to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the founding of the United States in 2026.
