Happy 4th of July!   Irving, TX - I hope you and your family had a happy Independence Day! I enjoyed gathering with folks from across our community in celebration of our great nation! On Saturday, I joined some of our neighbors at Keller Lights! We celebrated American Independence, enjoyed live music and a wonderful fireworks show. On Monday, I joined constituents from North Richland Hills, Watauga, and Haltom City at the Northeast Tarrant Family 4th Fireworks Show. After, I headed to Southlake Stars and Stripes to meet up with Southlake Mayor John Huffman and more Texas-24 residents! On Thursday, I had the opportunity to speak with more businesses in our district. It was great meeting with IB Roof Systems, a PVC membrane roofing company who did the roof on the Cannon building in D.C. I appreciated the chance to tour their new production facility in Grapevine and to discuss CTE programs. They shared how inflation and interest rates are preventing them from hiring and expanding. Later in the day, I met with CRH in Hurst and learned about their work as a manufacturer and supplier of products for the construction industry. CRH is the largest Sakrete manufacturer in the country! We also discussed the ramifications they’re experiencing as China continues to cheat tariffs. The day ended with a meeting with the National Air Traffic Controllers Association at the DFW Air Traffic Control Facility. We were at the Tracon-10 facility where they do nearly 1.3 million operations per year! I also learned more about the labor shortages facing the industry. This morning, the Alzheimer's Association joined me at our district office for a meeting on new pharmaceuticals to treat Alzheimer's disease and issues with Medicaid coverage. After, I met with Palo Alto Networks, the largest cybersecurity company in the country where we discussed funding and the introduction of my NDAA amendment. I also met with OnviSource today! We discussed how the National Small Business Association (NSBA) can help businesses across the country and in Texas-24! In case you missed it: We announced our full list of participants and partners for the 2023 North Texas Job Fair! Make sure to save the date for August 7th at the Irving Convention Center. Our 2021 job fair brought together more than 200 businesses and thousands of job seekers and we’re set to top that this year! Some of our participants are Amazon, TxDOT, FC Dallas, CHRISTUS Health, AT&T, Cook Children’s Health, Bell Textron, and Parkland Health. Click here to see the full list of businesses, RSVP, or reserve a booth! Upcoming Telephone Town Hall with Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne SUBMIT QUESTIONS HERE Texas-24 Work of the Week I introduced an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act. It requires the Department of Defense to report on the feasibility of partnerships with companies providing third-party job search software in assisting service members and veterans find employment following their active duty service. Texas-24 Hometown Hero This week’s Texas-24 Hometown Hero is the Coppell Fire Department. Due to a power failure at the Village Pump Station, the City of Coppell announced a Boil Water Notice and requested that residents and businesses only use water in emergency situations. The Coppell Fire Department's Emergency Management and Public Works team leapt into action and helped restore power to the water pump, all during a brutal Texas heatwave. The department offered multi-faceted assistance, from staffing the Emergency Operations Center, providing heat rehab support at the distribution point, transporting water from local vendors to the public library, on top of the normal daily operational items. I'd like to thank the Coppell Fire Department for their quick response and service to the residents of Texas-24 by making Coppell's water safe to drink again!
