Good Evening john,

My newsletter includes reporting on my the 75th anniversary of the NHS, action to tackle anti-social behaviour and record school results.

As ever, if you have an issue you would like to raise with me as your local Member of Parliament, please email: [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) .

75th Anniversary of the NHS

This week marks the 75th anniversary of our NHS.

The NHS has saved my life twice. Leading the campaign to save my mother's local hospital from closure was one of the primary reasons I decided to enter politics.

A stronger NHS is one of my six priorities for Tynedale and Ponteland. So far, we’ve delivered a £326m package for Northumbria NHS Trust, expanded surgical theatres and a new endoscopy unit at Hexham General Hospital.

This means 99.7% of Urgent Care attendances are met within national targets so local people are seen quickly and receive quality care.

But there is more to do. That’s why I was delighted to visit the brand-new maternity suite at Hexham General Hospital, ensuring local people get the highest quality of care when they give birth.

I also continue to campaign to improve services at Haltwhistle Hospital and recently met the Chief Executive
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust ([link removed]) to discuss improvements to local services.

To all the NHS staff who care for us day in, day out - thank you!

** Action to tackle anti-social behaviour
------------------------------------------------------------

More police to tackle anti-social behaviour is one of my six priorities for Tynedale and Ponteland.

This week we made good progress on this priority. £3 million of funding is being delivered to improve youth services with a further £8 million from the Autumn to stop anti-social behaviour before it begins. We are increasing the number of police patrols and punishing offenders by requiring them to repair the damage they have caused to their community. And finally, working with central Government, we secured £1.4 million for Northumbria Police to invest in CCTV and street lighting.

Local people deserve to feel safe wherever they are and whatever the time of day or night. This new funding will help deliver that.

I will continue to work with Northumbria Police and central Government to secure the resources we need to tackle anti-social behaviour such as our fair share of Northumbria Police’s 705 new officers.

** Record School Results
------------------------------------------------------------

Better schools are one of my six priorities for Tynedale and Ponteland. In 2015, I promised to secure the rebuild or full refurbishment of every high school across Tynedale and Ponteland. £98 million of investment later, this pledge has been delivered.

Working with central Government we secured a fairer funding formula so local students get more of the resources they deserve. The successful campaign led to an increase of up to 10% in the budgets of some Tynedale schools.

And just this year, every school across Tynedale and Ponteland received a significant funding boost.

These successes are delivering on my pledge for better schools and providing students with the resources and skills they need to secure high-paid employment. Thanks to these successes and the hard work of our brilliant teachers, 94% of Northumberland’s schools are now rated good or outstanding – our highest ever point.
