Efforts to develop new and cleaner sources of energy, and update our aging infrastructure, have put regulatory reform at the center of the debate over how to get America on a path toward a more clean, efficient, and sustainable future. While significant investments have been made toward these goals through the Energy Act of 2020, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act, our existing permitting and regulatory approval processes are thwarting efforts to modernize America’s infrastructure. As a result, members of Congress are now increasingly focused on enacting complementary policies that provide predictability, efficiency, and transparency to project approvals. While there is not yet agreement on the specific changes that can be enacted, members on both sides of the aisle have offered regulatory reform ideas, and the White House has signaled an interest in streamlined environmental reviews. ConservAmerica will host a webinar to explore the possibility of bipartisan permitting reform in the 118th Congress and discuss the details that might ultimately be included in a package that makes it to the President’s desk. Please join ConservAmerica on July 12 at 3:30pm ET for a discussion with U.S. Representative Scott Peters (D-CA) and U.S. Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA), moderated by ConservAmerica Senior Policy Advisor Quill Robinson. Panelists U.S. Representative Scott Peters serves California’s 50th Congressional District, which includes the cities of Coronado, San Marcos, Escondido and coastal San Diego. First elected in 2012, he currently serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, the House Budget Committee and the House Equality Caucus. Ranked the 4th most independent Democrat in Congress by the National Journal, Scott Peters understands that problems have bipartisan solutions, and is never afraid to work across party lines to get things done. U.S. Representative Mariannette Miller Meeks serves Iowa's 1st Congressional District, which covers the Southeastern region of the state. Mariannette is a member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, where she sits on the Subcommittee on Health and the Subcommittee on Environment, Manufacturing, and Critical Minerals, as well as the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs, where she serves as Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Health. She is the Vice Chair of the Conservative Climate Caucus and a strong voice for Iowa's agricultural communities. Moderator Quill Robinson serves as a Senior Adviser with ConservAmerica. Previously, he led the American Conservation Coalition's (ACC) government affairs efforts. Quill's commentary on topics ranging from energy security to environmental conservation can be found in outlets including The Hill and National Review, as well as on Newsmax and Fox News. Prior to joining ACC, he spent a year in Erfurt, Germany as a fellow with the Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals. Quill is an alumnus of the University of Washington in Seattle and is now pursuing a Master's Degree in Global Security Studies, with a focus on energy and environmental policy, at Johns Hopkins University.
