Further progress on the development of Broad Marsh

bm masterplan

I am delighted to announce that we have appointed major international architecture and design practice BDP to develop a master plan to realise our vision for Broad Marsh, one of the largest and most significant city centre projects anywhere in the UK.

The appointment of this renowned urban design firm will take the vision and turn it into a deliverable plan. This is a significant step towards seeing this site achieve its potential of becoming a destination in its own right and a driver of investment, jobs and growth for the whole city.

We have made significant progress on reshaping this part of the city to make the most of this once-in-a-generation opportunity. The new Broad Marsh car park, bus station and Central Library and the transformed streets around it have helped to create a modern, welcoming gateway to the city. We have demolished a large part of the former shopping centre, and will start work later this year on turning part of that space into the Green Heart that so many people have said they want to see in this area. Work most recently started on Collin Street pedestrianisation and I look forward this progressing as well.

Hello Nottingham campaign will say goodbye soon

hello nottingham

There are just a few weeks left to get involved with the Hello Nottingham campaign, a project being run by Nottingham City Council in collaboration with the University of Nottingham. Through Hello Nottingham, people in the city can share their thoughts on climate change and the city?s ambition to be carbon neutral by 2028 via text message.

Signs and stickers are appearing in parks, community spaces and the city centre and beyond with details of how you can chat with Hello Nottingham.

Anyone in the city can interact with the signs by scanning a QR code or texting the number shown. This will prompt a two-way conversation where you can share your views, find out what?s happening in the city to tackle climate change, and discover how to get involved. To take part, look out for a sign when you?re out and about and use your phone to follow the instructions.

How is the cost-of-living crisis affecting you?

col

The University of Nottingham has launched a survey to assess the impact of the cost-of-living crisis on local people.

Soaring prices on day-to-day essentials such as energy, fuel and food costs are having a significant impact on people across the country and in Nottingham. The Resolution Foundation has found that nationally a third of households will have to cut back on essentials and 48% of children will live in households without a decent minimum standard of living. The cost-of-living crisis shows no signs of slowing down and is impacting the poorest in society the most, but is now affecting most families in the city.

It?s important to know how this crisis is affecting local people and this survey, which the university is conducting across the city and the wider county, will help to further our understanding on this important issue.

You can complete the survey online here: Impacts of 2020?s Cost of Living Crisis on Family Welfare and Spending in Nottinghamshire: assessing the effects of mitigating policies and regulations [ [link removed] ]

Improving the look of our neighbourhoods

windowbox

Many people in Nottingham live in dense housing areas. As well as being exercised about keeping streets clean and free from fly-tipping, I am constantly impressed with residents who make an effort to improve our neighbourhoods with planting and window boxes on our streets

If you have done this I would love to hear about it and see pictures of what you have done. Please send them to me at [email protected]
