Earlier this week was the hottest day ever recorded on planet Earth. It’s an alarming milestone that scientific experts predict will happen over and over again as the climate crisis accelerates. 

Like many parts of the country, in Michigan, we’re experiencing the effects of a warming planet directly as wildfires from Canada fill our skies with smoke. The smoke was so toxic that Detroit’s air quality recently ranked among the world’s worst.

Our planet is at a tipping point — will you add your name and join me in the fight to end the climate crisis?

Look, I’m proud of our actions with the Biden administration to fight the climate crisis. Last year, Congress passed historic climate legislation, funding nearly $370 billion in clean energy development and other climate projects. In addition, President Biden has set the most ambitious emissions reduction goal in the history of our country.

We’re making progress, but the devastating heat this summer shows that our work isn’t done by a long shot. We’ve got to keep pushing to reduce emissions and transition to clean energy, and then we need to lead by example so our international allies do the same.

If you know me, you know how hard I’ve fought for our environment in the U.S. Senate. One of the first bills I passed actually banned oil drilling in Michigan’s Great Lakes. Since then, I’ve worked my heart out to pass more protections and stop right-wing bad actors like Donald Trump from defunding our work.

I know you care about our planet too. That's why I’m asking you to add your name and join me in fighting the climate crisis.

These are challenging times, but we can't despair. We must act before it’s too late for the future of our kids and our planet.
