Friends,
We are facing an epidemic of gun violence across our country, and it’s devastating when it hits so close to home in the heart of Seattle.
Common-sense gun reform is a necessity. Washington voters know it and passed crucial reforms, including raising the minimum age for purchasing assault-style rifles and requiring enhanced background checks. I’ve been proud to defend those laws and do everything in my power to protect our communities.
In the current legislative session, Gov. Inslee and I are partnering on legislation banning the sale of assault weapons and limiting high-capacity magazines. These are constitutional laws that will save lives and help our children feel safe again in our schools. We have no greater responsibility as elected officials.
And to that end, last week I led a coalition of 21 attorneys general in filing a lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s latest attempt to allow 3D-printed gun files to be released on the internet. These files would give anyone with a 3D printer the ability to create unregistered and untraceable “ghost guns” that are difficult to detect even with a metal detector.
We defeated Trump’s first attempt to make these guns available to domestic abusers, felons, and terrorists, and we’ll defeat this one as well. I’ve filed 55 lawsuits against the Trump administration. We haven’t lost a case yet. We’ll keep fighting an illegal policy that threatens the safety of Washingtonians.
Best,
Bob
