Ever since Roe v. Wade was overturned, abortion rights have become a central issue for elections across the nation. And with all eyes on Virginia this year, our state will be the testing ground to see if that hold will continue into 2024.
In June, our endorsed candidate Lashrecse Aird defeated her anti-choice primary opponent, Joe Morrissey. According to The Messenger, Morrissey “agreed that abortion was not only the issue that sunk his primary campaign but that it will be critical to general election campaigns this November.”
“It was the seminal issue in my race,” Morrisey told The Messenger. “I think it will be the number one issue in November. … This is an off-presidential year election where you might get 40-45 percent of the people out. And what is driving that vote? It’s real simple. Abortion.”
Roe Your Vote Virginia is a PAC focused on helping abortion-rights candidates run and win in Virginia’s 2023 General Assembly elections.
