When our neutral stance helped us evacuate children from a warzone in Sudan
Knowing these children are in a safer place, where there is no shooting around them, is an enormous relief.
In times of conflict, it is often the most vulnerable who bear the brunt.
In Sudan, we successfully evacuated 300 children, and over 70 caretakers, from Maygoma orphanage, in Khartoum. The children had spent incredibly difficult weeks in an area where the conflict has been raging since April. This was an especially hard situation for children with special needs, who did not even have access to proper health care.
Knowing they are safe is our highlight of the month.
This is a prime example of what our neutrality helps us achieve: When the world takes sides, we side with humanity.

Somalis are fishing for new income sources
While fishing remains a viable alternative for many Somalis, rising fuel prices have negatively impacted operational costs.
Almost 6.5 million Somalis are facing a food crisis. Amid the worsening drought, Somalis are starting alternate ventures on a small scale.
The ICRC provided 25 fishing boats, 25 engines, 150 fishing kits to 250 families who ply the trade in Kismayo, Mogadishu, Ceel Macaan and Bosaso.
We support communities so they can become resilient.
