Republicans unleash effort to rescind

Biden's EV mandate plans

Legislation would give Americans 'freedom to decide what car works best for them,' GOP rep says

FOX News | Thomas Catenacci & Houston Keene |July 6, 2023

A group of House Republicans is planning to introduce legislation Thursday that would prohibit the Biden administration from implementing proposed emissions standards designed to incentivize electric vehicle (EV) purchases.

Led by Reps. Tim Walberg, R-Mich., and Andrew Clyd, R-Ga., the Republicans are introducing the Choice in Automobile Retail Sales (CARS) Act in an effort to prevent the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from moving forward with its tailpipe emissions proposal unveiled earlier this year. The legislation could receive a markup hearing before the ENerging and Commerce Committee as soon as next week. Read more

Asa Hutchinson won't rule out endorsing Biden if Trump wins Republican nomination

Washington Examiner | Julie Johnson

July 6, 2023

Presidential candidate and former Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R-AR) did not rule out endorsing President Joe Biden for reelection in 2024 if former President Donald Trump is the eventual Republican nominee.

Hutchinson did not directly address a question from radio host Hugh Hewitt on Thursday about the prospect of a Biden endorsement if Trump wins the Republican primary.

"I don't expect to support Donald Trump," he told Hewitt when asked if he'd support the GOP nominee in that case.

"So, even if he's the nominee, you're not going to be a Republican supporter?" Hewitt asked. "Even if he is the nominee, and it's conclusive and overwhelming, you're just going to sit it out and maybe endorse Joe Biden?" Read more

Wisconsin Republicans say voters 'doubting Trump's ability to win' after poll shows DeSantis blowout

Wisconsin GOP leader says there's a reason 'Democrats want to run against Trump'

FOX News | Jessica Chasmar

July 6, 2023

Some Wisconsin Republican voters are losing faith in former President Trump as a new statewide poll showed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis beating him by 16 points in a head-to-head primary matchup.

Wisconsin state Sen. Duey Stroebel, a Republican, said the poll shows voters in the state are doubting Trump's electability amid his recent indictment, while DeSantis has taken a "more comment sense, level-headed approach" on the campaign trail.

"Trump, of course, did a great job as president, but DeSantis is very, very impressive," Stroebel told Fox News Digital. "And I think more and more people really are doubting Trump's ability to win a general election, and I think these results kind of prove it." Read more

Once he and his wife, Jennifer, moved to a Boise suburb last year, Tim Kohl could finally express himself.

Kohl did what the couple never dared at their previous house outside Los Angeles - the newly-retired Los Angeles police officer flew a U.S. flag and a Thin Blue Line banner representing law enforcement outside his house.

"We were scared to put it up," Jennifer Kohl acknowledged. But the Kohls knew they had moved to the right place when neighbors complimented him on the display. Read more

Who Came Out Ahead On the Debt Ceiling?

WG Discussion Points | David Winston

June 30, 2023

In the bipartisan debt limit agreement, neither side got all they wanted. Most Democrats admit that Republicans won the messaging war and that negotiations were mostly on Republicans' terms. However both parties are claiming a "win," so the question is who actually made progress on the issue of the national debt?

In our latest survey for Winning the Issues (June 19-21), we tracked issue handling of the national debt before and after the agreement. Our April Survey (April 28-30) was done prior to the start of negotiations that began in May. The April survey showed Republicans had an 11-point lead going into the negotiations (46-35 R-D) but were under 50%. While Republicans naturally had more trust in Republicans (81-9) and Democrats trusted Democrats (16-69) to handle the issue, independents leaned toward Republicans 39-25 but at a very soft level, with one-third (35%) that were undecided.
