We need to get the world back on track.

John,

New research from the World Resources Institute (WRI) has shown that, rather than slowing global deforestation as world leaders pledged to do at COP26, an area of tropical forest the size of Switzerland was lost in 2022. That’s about 11 football pitches of forest lost every minute last year.

Loss of old-growth tropical forests like those in Brazil, Indonesia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo is particularly bad because these areas are huge carbon sinks. This means that these forests help to remove large amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere that contributes to global warming. Destroying these forests simultaneously eliminates a natural carbon sink and releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, worsening the global climate crisis.

According to Rod Taylor, the Global Director of the WRI’s Forests Program, the world is not on the right track to stop deforestation by 2030, and swift action needs to be taken to save these forests to keep global temperatures from reaching dangerous and unsustainable heights. Will you donate now to support our SEEC Members’ efforts to fight deforestation and global climate change?

It’s not too late to keep up the pressure and reverse this destructive deforestation trend. That’s why we need your help today to make sure that we elect a pro-climate majority in 2024 so we can work together to get back on track.

Thanks to your help in 2022, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 118th Congress while we continue fighting for a sustainable future.
