Coalitions Member,
Hope you had a safe and Happy 4th of July surrounded by family, friends, and good food! 🎆 With summer now in full swing, we wanted to send an update on some of the latest happenings within our Coalitions program, highlight some of our most recent events, and make sure you know what exciting events we have coming up this summer!
First, we are excited to have officially launched the Older Adult Caucus (OAC) with the goal of lifting up and further advocating on behalf of issues relating to Older Adult Democrats across New Jersey! As our population continues to age, it is crucial that we ensure that the concerns, experiences, and aspirations of our older adult community are heard and championed within our party. The Older Adult Caucus will aim to provide a dedicated platform for those over 55 years old to engage in meaningful dialogue, shape policy proposals, and drive change that will directly impact their lives.

✅ Are you eager to help lift up the older adults in New Jersey? ✅ Do you want to ensure, as an older adult, you are actively engaging in the democratic process?

We also launched an Interfaith Committee after a hugely successful panel discussion that featured religious leaders from across the state: Reverend Thuselle C. Williams (Moderator), Imam Khalil Abdullah, Rajvir S. Goomer, Dipal Pandya, Reverend Idida Rodriguez, and Rabbi Robert Wolkoff during the 2023 NJDSC Conference. This dedicated committee will highlight the significance of community and mutual understanding across different faith traditions. Through meaningful dialogue and active community participation, we can emphasize the shared values that unite us all, and help create a more inclusive society that spans across different religious beliefs and traditions.

On June 14th, our NJDSC Black Caucus, New Jersey Young Democrats Black Caucus, and the South Jersey Young Democrats Black Caucus had a Juneteenth Celebration commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. The evening held space to celebrate the progress in equality that has been fought for for generations and for engaging discussions on the still ongoing fight for real, and systemically reflected, racial justice, and equality.
