Dear John,
In late May, the Department of Natural Resources found Minnesota’s rules to be inadequate to protect the Boundary Waters from the toxic noise and light pollution inherent to sulfide-ore copper mining. While this was encouraging news, we’ve learned that the mining company Twin Metals Minnesota has challenged this decision, putting the Boundary Waters at further risk. Antofagasta, the Chilean mining giant behind the Twin Metals mine, is attempting to resurrect their proposed toxic sulfide-ore copper mine on the edge of the Boundary Waters. |
