John, I am excited to share a limited time opportunity for you to join us and have your impact doubled. A generous donor has offered to match all gifts up to $400,000, so any amount you give now will help rescue and restore twice as many victims of modern slavery, like Parobai.
When Parobai's husband became ill, the family was desperate for work. They were tricked into bonded labor at a remote sugarcane farm in South Asia and became trapped. The family worked long hours in terrible conditions with little food, often suffering violence and abuse. “They verbally abused us, and the owner would often beat us ... all I could do was cry,” said Parobai, recalling her time in captivity.
Parobai and her family had been trapped for four months until their plight was reported to Jan Sahas, one of IJM's partner organizations. The rescue team worked with law enforcement officers to bring them to safety along with several more adults and children. Thanks to friends like you, your support also helped provide skills training, including a sewing course, and even gifted Parobai with a sewing machine so she could start her own business.
While Parobai’s family now faces a future full of potential, many others are still trapped in modern slavery.
