Currently, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) rely on various public programs over the course of their lives, including Supplemental Security Income and benefits for health care support. These benefits make a key difference in allowing them to live, thrive and work independently. But as a direct result, they face strict rules around work eligibility.
And the rules can be quite harsh. For example, if a young person with a disability works and earns just one dollar over the qualified "Disabled Adult Child" (DAC) standard, they may permanently lose their DAC benefits.
This is a crucial work disincentive in Social Security for people with disabilities and their families.

The Work Without Worry Act, introduced in Congress, aims to safeguard financial security by guaranteeing that individuals can receive a Social Security DAC benefit, regardless of their earnings. This change is estimated to positively impact the lives of nearly 6,000 individuals with disabilities over the next 10 years, while having no significant effect on the Social Security Trust Funds.
Every individual deserves the right to work without the looming threat of losing their benefits. The passage of this legislation would not only grant us the freedom to work without worry but also secure our own financial independence and security.
Sign the petition: Urge Congress to pass the Work Without Worry Act.
