Three ways to support student borrowers at risk of default
Last week, the US Supreme Court rejected the Biden administration’s student loan forgiveness plan, meaning borrowers will not receive broad-based debt cancellation.
Research shows borrowers more likely to default include those who’ve defaulted at least once before and those who didn’t complete a credential. Because of labor market discrimination and racial wealth gaps, among other structural barriers, Black and Latine borrowers are also more likely to default.
