<[link removed]> ConservAmerica Submits Comments to BLM on Proposed Conservation Rule July 6, 2023 WASHINGTON, DC - ConservAmerica submitted comments to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) on a proposal to amend regulations implementing the Federal Land Policy and Management Act (FLPMA) of 1976 by making conservation a use “on par” with other uses of public lands under FLPMA's multiple-use framework. ConservAmerica ranks efforts to restore and protect public lands among our highest priorities; however, the lands managed by BLM were intended by Congress as a natural resource to help provide the agriculture, livestock, forestry, and energy and mineral resources needed to drive our nation’s economy. In the proposed rule, BLM is taking it upon itself to reprioritize the statutory criterion for land use in a manner that allows it to remove vast tracts of land from development, limiting our nation’s ability to meet resource needs, including those that are vital to the nation’s energy security, the economy, and to meeting our emissions reduction targets. While conservation is a shared goal, we urge BLM to pursue a more collaborative approach to conserving additional federal lands in a manner that is consistent with Congressional intent and that takes into consideration our country’s dependence on these areas for vital resource needs.
