Leaked documents have revealed that the UK Government plans to scrap its £11.6 billion climate and nature pledge.
Dear John
Leaked documents have just revealed the UK Government plans to scrap its £11.6 billion climate and nature pledge [1]. At the same time as giving fossil fuel companies £11.4 billion in tax breaks [2].
This money is desperately needed by the world's communities most affected by climate change. And to protect and restore the world’s vanishing nature.
But scrapping the pledge hasn’t been confirmed yet. So right now we have a chance to create a surge of public pressure to push the prime minster to stick to the pledge.

This Tuesday was the hottest day ever recorded globally. Here in the UK we’ve just experienced the hottest June ever. And already the devastating impacts of climbing temperatures are being felt by people all over the world.
The government’s pledge was meant to channel much needed money to developing and under-resourced countries – to help tackle the impacts of climate breakdown and fund solutions. £3 billion was earmarked for essential nature protection and restoration.
This was part of a global effort agreed at the COP26 climate talks. But now it looks like Rishi Sunak wants to walk away from it. And from taking responsibility for some of the UK's historic role in creating the climate crisis.
Let’s tell him that ditching the pledge is unacceptable. Before its too late.
I'LL SIGN THE PETITION ([link removed])
If the government wants the UK to be seen as a climate leader, the bare minimum it needs to do is to keep its promise to some of the world’s most affected people and communities. The world is watching.
Best wishes,
Rachel
