House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced his plan to create a “bipartisan” commission to cut Social Security and Medicare behind closed doors.

McCarthy knows that the only way to cut Social Security and Medicare involves forging a secret deal supported by members of both parties. That way, voters won’t know who to blame.

McCarthy’s scheme relies on at least one Democrat who is willing to side with Republicans. If our allies remain united and reject going behind closed doors, the commission will falter. We need to make sure that our allies stand united to stop McCarthy’s commission.

Sign the petition to Congress: Stand united and refuse to serve on Kevin McCarthy’s secretive Social Security-cutting commission.

Any commission that McCarthy creates will unduly favor benefit cuts, because McCarthy’s party refuses to consider making the wealthy pay their fair share. The only way to win this game is not to play.

Congress must make it clear that they are only willing to debate Social Security’s future in an open and transparent manner. We must expand Social Security, not cave to Republican plans to cut it.
