1) Oh Yes, He’s the Great Pretender: Josh Shapiro Sells Out Children for Unions
[link removed].
When he was running for governor of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro promised to govern as a new kind of common-sense Democrat - who wasn’t ruled by the union bosses and the progressive left. Shapiro routinely touted his support of school choice for minority kids in failing schools.
“It’s what I believe in,” he told voters when he was running for Governor. Two weeks ago on a national Fox News broadcast Shapiro was unequivocal in his support for school choice because “every child of God deserves a quality education.”
But there’s a force far more powerful in politics than his convictions - such as they are. And that force is the teachers' unions. They put on a full-court press to stop the roughly 10,000 vouchers for the poorest kids in the state’s worst school districts even though the budget bill gave billions MORE for the public schools. It didn’t matter that this voucher program comprised less than one-half of one percent of state spending. The union brass commanded Democrats to vote no on even a single penny going to schools that work.
In the end, Shapiro surrendered without a fight. He might as well have declared that black lives don’t matter.
Shapiro has presidential ambitions. But if you can’t face down Randi Weingarten, how are you ever going to stand up to bullies like China’s President Xi or Russia’s Putin?
It’s the end of the brief Shapiro legend.

2) About That Biden Manufacturing Boom
Biden boasts that manufacturing has doubled over the past two years. The Wall Street Journal gushed in a headline yesterday that America is “experiencing a factory boom” and showed this chart:
[link removed]
Most of that is government money building pyramids and financing the next batch of Solyndra bankruptcies.
The rhetoric is highly misleading because, once again, the Biden team fails to account for the impact of inflation when describing this supposed boom. Here is what the government’s own report says:
Nominal construction spending has risen consistently since the onset of the pandemic, but much of this increase is attributable to a sharp rise in the increase of both labor and materials costs in construction (Figure 7).
[link removed]
Look closely at the gray line. Does that look like a boom? Construction spending is up mainly because everything is more expensive. This is like celebrating the rise in grocery store spending because food costs so much.

3) After 20 Years And $4 Trillion Spent – Still No "Green Energy Transition"
Energy economist Robert Bryce offers up the following sobering fact in his valuable Substack column. ([link removed]) In the last 18 years, the world has spent $4.1 trillion force-feeding wind and solar power. That’s more money than the Gross Domestic Product of Germany, the world’s fourth-largest economy.
[link removed]
But the much ballyhooed “transition” from fossil fuels to wind and solar has been a bust and their growth has been eclipsed by the continued growth of hydrocarbons. In 2004, hydrocarbons provided 86% of the globe’s primary energy. Today, the share of hydrocarbons has only dropped to 82%. Wind and solar are 5%, and the rest is produced by hydro, nuclear, and biomass. In absolute terms, hydrocarbon use went up 3.4 times faster than wind and solar.
Gee, that’s some “energy transition” we’re experiencing.

4) Are Americans Moving to Red States Because of the Sunshine, Or the Low Taxes?
For years the left hasn’t been able to explain why so many millions upon millions of Americans are leaving blue state paradises for supposed culturally inferior red states.
The obvious answer is lower taxes, less union power, lighter regulation, and pro-business policies that create jobs.
But now the media is echoing what Paul Krugman and others have posited as the only explanation: people are rushing to warm weather and sunshine.
Here’s a recent headline from Axios AM:
[link removed]
It is true that the six fastest-growing states - Florida, Texas, Georgia, the Carolinas, and Tennessee — are in the warm region of the South. Amazingly, these states now add more to the national GDP ([link removed]) than the entire Northeast.
But this isn’t primarily because of sunshine. Look at two of the biggest loser states: California and Hawaii. These are the sunniest states in America and people are leaving.
Meanwhile, Idaho and Utah are two of the fastest-growing states, and it’s crazy cold up there in these mountain states.
But that’s where you go if you want freedom.

5) California Considers Decriminalizing Public Urination and Allowing Deadbeat Dads To Stop Paying Child Support
The top experts in California have finally come up with a way to stop the exodus from the Golden State and create a new California gold rush while restoring racial equity. These two headlines tell the story:
