Navy veteran becomes U.S. citizen after unjust deportation

Howard Bailey, who spent 10 years in exile because of an unjust deportation and was able to return home to the U.S. after advocacy through NIJC’s Chance to Come Home campaign, has officially become a U.S. citizen.

Supreme Court upholds executive authority over immigration enforcement

The Supreme Court’s recent ruling affirms that the Executive Branch has authority to exercise discretion in immigration enforcement.

NIJC hopes the Biden administration will now revisit the guidelines for immigration priorities and put in place policies that uphold justice and dignity for people who come to the United States to reunite with loved ones and seek safety.

NIJC and legal rights groups sue U.S. government over asylum ban

NIJC and partner organizations filed a new lawsuit against the Biden administration over its sweeping asylum ban. The suit represents individual asylum seekers and legal aid groups and challenges a rapid deportation process that wrongfully returns people back to persecution and grave danger.

NIJC founder on The Today Show

Craig Mousin, one of NIJC’s founders and leadership board member, joined The Today Show with his friend and Syrian refugee, Emad. They met and worked together at DePaul University where Craig is a professor and ombudsperson. Craig said that Emad is a testament to "the power of the human spirit to survive."

Congratulations to this woman for passing her citizenship interview, just in time for the 4th of July!
